What is the global situation now?
The World Health Organization speaks about the global deterioration of the situation with the spread of coronavirus. Although the situation with the spread of coronavirus infection is improving in Europe, it is worsening globally.
Statistics in different countries
Different resources are showing tables and online maps with coronavirus worldwide stats, the number of infected people, recovered, and deaths.
As of August 11, 2020, the world has recorded 20,400,636 cases of Covid-19 coronavirus infection. Over the past day, the number of infected people increased by 241,558 people.
The total number of deaths from coronavirus infection in the world is 741 987 people, today 5 784 deaths got into a record.
Now, let’s see the mortality rate by country. The United States remains the leader in both the number of patients and the number of recoveries: 2.7 million have recovered. However, the country with the highest death rate in the United Kingdom. If you compare countries, in Brazil, 2.1 million defeated the coronavirus, in India — 1.5 million, in Russia — 696 thousand, in South Africa — 417 thousand, in Chile — 347 thousand. It is the world statistics we have for now in comparison to countries.
The WHO (World Health Organization) director-general said that they registered almost 75% of world stats of new cases, mainly in the Americas and South Asia.
At the same time, there is no specific term for the development of a vaccine at the moment. But the coronavirus fatality rate by location still can grow. The coronavirus pandemic has already claimed the lives of over 25 thousand people in the world. Europe suffers the most, where 17 314 infected people have died. The day before, the United States overtook China in the number of people infected with coronavirus (on Friday, the number of cases in the United States exceeded 100 thousand per day).
In the first place in terms of the number of deaths is Italy (9,134), then Spain (4,934), and China (3,292).
In total, almost 600 thousand people have been infected with coronavirus in the world from December 2019 until the end of March, when quarantine started in many countries. Italy is one of the hardest-hit countries in Europe from the coronavirus. The most critical situation developed in the northern regions of the country in March-April.
What countries get progress in the fight against pandemic?
The coronavirus pandemic is not even close to over yet, and the incidence is accelerating. Despite the progress in many countries, the virus is still growing.
Since the start of the pandemic, many countries have made progress in the fight against the virus. Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza said that Italian scientists have managed to isolate the deadly coronavirus, the focus of which is China.
As for Europe, during the quarantine, the increase of infected people peaked. Then a phase of slowing down the spread of the virus began in many countries.
New Zealand, Rwanda, and some island states were able to stop the spread of infection at an early stage. Some countries had no incidents of the virus. Most of them are island countries. Besides, several territories didn’t register Coronavirus. These lands are not considered sovereign states. For example, the overseas possessions of Great Britain — the islands of St. Helena and Pitcairn, the Australian Cocos Islands and Christmas Island, the New Zealand Cook Islands, the Norwegian Spitsbergen, the US-owned islands of Midway, Wake and others.
The largest country in which, according to its data, there are no cases of COVID-19, is North Korea with a population of over 25 million people. Due to the closed nature of this state, it is problematic to understand how realistic the local coronavirus “zero” is.
In the first half of 2020 the Japanese authorities recorded a thousand more deaths than usual – possibly due to Covid-19. Even with this amount, the rating was much lower than in other countries.
All this is especially surprising, as there are a lot of those who are considered particularly vulnerable to coronavirus in Japan. Also the authorities did not impose a strict quarantine like other countries, including the closest neighbors, did. And all this is because of the high level of hygiene and culture of the nation. They do not shake hands or hug when they meet as Europeans. So that infections are less frequent in their lives. In addition, they were wearing masks before it became necessary in 2020.
Signs and complications of coronavirus
To make positive statistics, it is highly important to know the main symptoms of coronavirus and take essential precautions on time.
It is vital to understand that similar symptoms occur in patients with ARVI or influenza. If you find these symptoms, you must immediately consult a doctor to get medical help and exclude coronavirus.
- Labored breathing;
- Sneezing, coughing, and nasal congestion;
- Muscle and chest pain;
- Headache and weakness;
- Possible nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Stay home and call your doctor if you:
- have been in contact with a person infected with COVID-19;
- have returned from a country with an outbreak;
- have a fever, cough, and shortness of breath.
Viral pneumonia is the leading complication. Deterioration in viral pneumonia is rapid, and many patients develop respiratory failure within 24 hours, requiring immediate respiratory support with mechanical ventilation. Prompt treatment can help alleviate the severity of the disease.
Please, note that only the doctor will interpret all research results! After all, a complete picture consists of data from the medical history, examination, laboratory, and instrumental data.
In the meantime, the Supercomputing Center of the Russian Academy still works on the methods to fight the virus with the help of this research project.
